This is my story of one ten-mile bike ride that certainly had its ups and downs.

So I was riding to Walmart with my friend today, and all was going well. Eventually, we get to a big junction between a six-lane highway, an interstate off-ramp and the corresponding on-ramp. I saw a black thing in the road. Upon doing a double-take, I noticed what it was.

A car battery.

So I layed my bike down on a guard rail, and as someone in a Beetle conveniently panicked and stopped fully behind it, I ran out, grabbed it, dropped it upon underestimating the weight, grabbed it again, and tossed it into the grass. Everyone honked, several people waved, and the girls in the Beetle yelled “THANK YOU!” and one made the heart gesture with her hands. (They were totally in their forties though…) So, for the next half mile until we reached our destination, I felt really good about myself. I unblocked ten lanes of traffic just by doing what the drivers couldn’t.

Then we bought stuff and left.

On the way home, I was flying down a hill pretty fast. Obviously, just like any car would, I had the right of way past all the parking lot outlets. But then some lady in her flashy Mercedes, talking on her cell phone, came up to make a right turn and for whatever reason never thought to look to her left. She stopped directly in my way, and I had only twenty feet to go from around 25mph to zero. I stopped about three feet from her window and she looked right at me and made a very memorable face.

It went a little along the lines of: “You’re a loser. I have a Mercedes.” You just had to see it to know.

So I flipped her off and carried on my way. Half a mile from home, my neighbors’ van came flying by at least ten over the limit. The driver made no effort to move over. The wind from the van caused me to hit the curb; it was that close. I got home to find that the driver was their fifteen-year-old daughter. It was her first time ever behind the wheel and she was speeding on the highway with three little kids in the back.

Never before have I been so angry at drivers. They don’t seem to realize that bikers do not cause congestion or any other inconveniences. All you have to do is move two feet to the left. If this is how it’s going to be, then maybe we’ll stop going out of our way to remove debris, aid crash victims, and provide insight to car trouble sufferers. Bikers are the anonymous heroes of the roadway, so I’d highly suggest that you treat us better than most drivers do.

Event>Rally America 2010 Practice @ NJMP

August 28th, 2010 was a historic day for New Jersey Motorsports Park. On this day, the first ever rallycross event on the track was to begin, marking a new chapter in the track’s relatively short history. Some of the best drivers in the game were there to compete, such as Dave Mirra, Travis Pastrana, and of course, Ken Block. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to go to the actual race, but I was at the practice the day before, and I can say it was very intense and a very interesting track layout.

Walking around the paddock/parking are, I saw a lot of nicely modified Subarus, and quite a few interesting rallycross machines.

This WRX was looking really clean on those rims. Mostly stock and super clean, I like.

Here’s another shot of that tasty WRX. Work Emotion CR Kais I believe. The stance on this car is so nice, not too aggressive but still pretty damn low.

The stance wasn’t that aggressive compared with those hellabeatcaniflushestworks guys, but this car gets driven, so it’s pretty sick.

Travis’s rally car was on display, there’s something I love about this car that I can’t place.

Now for some of the action from practice:

The driver of this MazdaSpeed3 was going ridiculously hard all day long. It was very entertaining to see him pitch the little hatch sideways into the corners.

Mr. Pastrana was also having a good drive, getting more and more sideways with each run.

Just some more pictures from my trip to the Target Trails in Voorhees, NJ. If you’re ever in South Jersey and you wanna ride trails, this is the place to go.

Red Bull kept it all going through the day.

The trails were huge, but they were starting to show their age, with grass growing on the takeoffs and landings.

When all was said and done, I had an awesome day. The trails were sweet, I chilled with some great friends of mine, and I rode really hard. Great day.
